11-Month Work-Integrated Industrial Apprenticeship
From classroom to campfire — from learning to doing.
In a world obsessed with certificates, the real currency is experience.
The Legacy Bosroete is a full-year, work-integrated apprenticeship that equips young people with real skills, real mentors and real industry exposure across South Africa’s wildlife, agriculture and outdoor sectors.
What Is the Legacy Bosroete?
The Legacy Bosroete is an intensive 11-month practical apprenticeship designed for students who want to learn by doing. Rather than sitting in classrooms or simulations, students live and work on active operations such as:
- Wildlife farms
- Hunting and outfitting operations
- Conservation reserves
- Outdoor education facilities
- Lodges, guest farms and eco-tourism environments
Students rotate through multiple host farms during the year, gaining broad experience under different managers and professionals. Every placement provides genuine, hands-on involvement in the day-to-day realities of the wildlife and land-based industry.
Why It Matters
Most young people complete a “gap year” with only memories.
Legacy students complete the Bosroete with references.
Graduates leave with:
- Professional reference letters from farm owners and industry experts
- A CV built on real experience, not just training
- Industry networks within wildlife, hunting, agriculture and conservation
- Confidence, adaptability and personal maturity
- Practical skills employers genuinely look for
While others are polishing CVs, Legacy apprentices are building them — through actions, not just theory.
How the Programme Works
The Bosroete blends practical work, structured learning and ongoing evaluation:
- 1 month of theory, preparation and skills consolidation
- 10 months of real work at multiple host sites
- Continuous Legacy oversight, mentorship and support
- Regular study weeks for essential certifications
- End-of-year skills portfolio and full experience logbook
By the end of the programme, each student has a complete record of skills, supervisor evaluations and practical achievements.
Where Does Training Take Place?
Students work across more than 100,000 hectares of privately owned wildlife systems in diverse regions of South Africa.
Legacy is developing strategic partnerships with Wildlife Ranching South Africa (WRSA), giving students exposure to some of the industry’s most respected wildlife ranchers — including winners of:
- Game Rancher of the Year
- Game Breeder of the Year
This means students don’t learn about the industry — they learn inside it.
